Chapter 10 - The Financial Ruin Begins

Vivian opened her leather briefcase and pulled out a massive, heavily tabbed binder. She placed it squarely on the glass coffee table.

"Marcus Sterling didn't just view you as a punching bag, Clara," Vivian began, her tone shifting into pure, lethal business. "He viewed you as an ATM. While he was busy breaking you down emotionally, he was systematically bleeding your family’s trust fund dry."

My mother gasped, covering her mouth. "How is that possible? Arthur and I manage the trust."

"Marcus is a genius at corporate shell games, Eleanor," Vivian explained, flipping open the binder to reveal complex flowcharts. "He used the upcoming merger of your two companies as a smokescreen. He forged Clara’s signature on several key authorization forms, routing millions of dollars of your family’s liquid assets into offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands."

I stared at the forged signatures. They were nearly perfect replicas of my handwriting.

"He needed my signature to release the final massive payout," I whispered, the realization hitting me like a physical blow. "That’s why he was so desperate to marry me today. Once the marriage certificate was signed, he would have had legal joint access to the primary estate."

"Exactly," my father growled, his fists clenching so hard his knuckles turned white. "He was going to drain us dry and leave Clara trapped in a marriage she couldn't afford to escape."

"But he failed," Vivian said, a cruel, satisfied smirk crossing her lips. "Because Clara came to me three months ago. We didn't just document the abuse. We quietly hired forensic accountants. We tracked every single penny he stole. And as of ten minutes ago, a federal judge has frozen all of Marcus’s personal and business assets."

I looked up at my father, seeing the fierce, unwavering pride in his eyes.

"He’s sitting in a holding cell right now," Vivian continued, "with absolutely no money to post bail, no access to his lawyers, and his entire fraudulent empire exposed to the FBI. You didn't just stop a wedding, Clara. You dismantled his entire existence."
