Chapter 31 - The Arrest

The professional mercenaries, realizing they were vastly outgunned by dozens of federal agents holding superior tactical positions, did not attempt to fight a losing battle. They immediately dropped their incendiary devices and assault rifles onto the wet asphalt, dropping to their knees and raising their hands in unconditional surrender.
Julian, however, refused to kneel. He stood rigidly in the pouring rain, his expensive suit soaked, his face pale with utter disbelief. The arrogant, untouchable architect of the shadows could not comprehend that a woman he considered beneath him had orchestrated his complete, undeniable ruin.
Detective Shaw walked confidently out the front doors of the foundation, his gold badge gleaming brightly against his dark jacket. He approached Julian, not bothering to draw his weapon. He didn't need to.
"Julian Vance," Shaw said, his voice carrying the immense, satisfying weight of justice. "You are under arrest for domestic terrorism, grand extortion, corporate espionage, and a laundry list of federal financial crimes that will keep you buried in a concrete cell for the next three lifetimes."
Julian glared at Shaw with pure, unadulterated venom. "You think you’ve won? I have judges on my payroll who will throw this case out before I even reach the booking desk."
"Not anymore, Julian," I said, stepping out onto the porch, flanked by Elias and Elena. I looked down at the pathetic, soaked man standing in the street. "I have your decrypted ledgers. The FBI has already dispatched arrest teams to every single corrupt judge and politician on your payroll. Your entire syndicate is collapsing as we speak. You have no allies left to manipulate."

Shaw violently grabbed Julian’s arms, twisting them behind his back. The sharp, mechanical click of the heavy steel handcuffs locking into place was the most beautiful symphony I had ever heard.
"Enjoy the view, Julian," I said softly as Shaw shoved him toward the police cruiser. "Because it’s the last time you will ever see the outside of a cage."
