Chapter 27 - The Digital Heist

The interior of the vault was a chilling masterpiece of corporate paranoia. Massive, black server racks hummed loudly, radiating an intense wave of heat. The room was bathed in the harsh, blue light of LED indicators.
David didn't waste a second. He rushed to the primary terminal, connecting his heavy-duty decryption laptop directly into the mainframe via a thick, braided cable. His fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard with blistering speed.
"I'm in the main directory," David announced, sweat beading on his forehead. "Julian's encryption is brutal. It’s a cascading algorithm. If I input the wrong extraction command, the server will automatically wipe all the drives to protect the data."
"Just focus," I said, standing near the vault door, my heart pounding a frantic rhythm. Elias was holding the corridor, his weapon raised, watching the elevator banks.
"I've found the offshore ledgers," David whispered, his eyes widening in absolute shock as the data scrolled across his screen. "Lena, this isn't just Derek’s twenty million dollars. Julian has been washing money for international arms dealers. There are hundreds of millions of dollars routed through these shell companies. He has half the state legislature on his payroll."
"Extract everything," I commanded. "We are going to burn his entire network to ashes."
A sudden, blaring red alarm began to pulse violently throughout the sub-basement. The harsh, mechanical shriek of a siren echoed down the concrete hallway.
"We have a problem!" Elias shouted over the comms. "The thermal sensors in the vault just tripped the silent alarm. Building security is swarming the elevators. We have heavily armed hostiles descending now!"
"David, how much longer?!" I yelled over the siren.

"Ninety-five percent!" David panicked, slamming the enter key. "Just give me ten more seconds!"
"We don't have ten seconds," Elias growled. The sharp, terrifying sound of the elevator doors opening echoed down the hall.
