Chapter 26 - A New Center

Back at the block party, the mayor arrived to cut a ceremonial ribbon for the newly renovated Oakridge Center. Thanks to the funds redirected by Adrian and the whistleblower fund established by Judge Cross, the center had been completely transformed.

It now boasted a state-of-the-art library, a computer lab, and a massive indoor playground. Above the main entrance, a new sign had been erected.

Claire read it and felt tears well in her eyes.

"They named it after us?" Sophie asked, her eyes wide with amazement.

"They wanted to honor you, Sophie," Maya said, hugging the little girl. "Because you taught us how to be brave."

Claire looked at the sign, feeling a profound sense of peace. She had spent so long trying to protect her daughter from the cruelty of the world. But she finally realized that true protection wasn't about building walls; it was about giving Sophie the strength to tear them down.
