Chapter 10 - An Unexpected Ally

Claire knew she could not fight a multi-billion-dollar real estate conglomerate alone. She needed resources, protection, and someone who understood the dark underbelly of the city's elite. She needed Adrian Langford.
She met him at a quiet cafe near the museum. Adrian had changed significantly since his mother's arrest. The arrogance was gone, replaced by a quiet, determined humility. He wore a simple coat, sipping black coffee as he reviewed the forged deeds Claire had laid out before him.
"Sterling," Adrian sighed, rubbing his temples. "My mother used to do business with him. He is utterly ruthless, Claire. If Victoria was a snake, Arthur Sterling is a shark."
"He forged a dead man's signature to steal a community center from children, Adrian. I don't care what kind of predator he is. I need to know how his shell companies are structured."
Adrian looked at the documents, his analytical mind recognizing the patterns.
"Apex Holdings is managed by a proxy law firm. But the money always flows back to a central ledger. Sterling is paranoid. He keeps a physical copy of his true financial records because he doesn't trust digital servers."
"Where does he keep it?"
"In a private vault at his corporate headquarters. But you can't just walk in there, Claire. His security is military-grade."
Claire smiled, a cold, calculated expression that Adrian had learned to deeply respect.
"I don't need to walk in. I just need someone on the inside to realize that silence is no longer their safest option. Do you still have your mother's old contact book?"
Adrian nodded slowly.

"Yes. But if we do this, there is no going back. Sterling will come for you."
"Let him come," Claire replied.
