Chapter 23 - The Shareholder Meeting

The box contained hundreds of handwritten thank-you notes from the children, parents, and teachers of the South Ward. Claire and Sophie spent the entire evening reading them, their hearts full of warmth.

The next day, Adrian called a special meeting of the remaining ethical shareholders of Sterling Enterprises. With Sterling in federal custody and his corrupt board members resigning in panic, a massive power vacuum had opened.

Adrian stood at the head of the boardroom table.

"This company has caused immeasurable pain," Adrian told the remaining executives. "Starting today, we are pivoting. We will no longer build luxury condos on stolen land. We are transitioning this firm into an affordable housing trust."

There were murmurs of shock, but no one dared challenge him. The public PR nightmare was so severe that Adrian's plan was the only way to save the company from total bankruptcy.

"Furthermore," Adrian continued, "ten percent of all future profits will be permanently diverted to the Evelyn Hale Foundation to fund legal defense for underprivileged communities."

When the news hit the press, Claire was astounded. Adrian had taken the ultimate instrument of Sterling's greed and transformed it into a machine for social good. He had finally found a way to use his wealth that didn't feel like purchasing forgiveness; it felt like genuine redemption.
