Chapter 37 - The New Order

Police sirens echoed from the streets below as MI6 tactical units and London Metropolitan Police officers swarmed the Thames Penthouse.
Gabriel Vance was dragged out in handcuffs, his expensive suit stained with scotch, his eyes fixed on me with a mixture of pure hatred and grudging respect as officers escorted him into an armored police van.
Dad stood beside me on the terrace, watching the red and blue lights reflect off the wet asphalt below.
"Is it really over this time, Mara?" Dad asked quietly, turning his head to look at me.
"The Vances are gone," I answered, leaning my head against his shoulder. "Silas, Odalys, Victor, and now Gabriel. The entire network has been dismantled. The authorities have the master keys."
"And Vance Dynamics?"
"I'm liquidating the defense contracts tomorrow," I declared firmly. "We're converting the entire company into a global cybersecurity non-profit. No more secrets. No more weapons. No more shadow wars."
Dad smiled, pulling me into a warm, protective embrace. "Your mother would be so proud of you, Mara. You didn't just survive their world... you changed it."

The helicopter pilot walked out onto the terrace, holding Maya's travel capsule safely in his arms. I stepped forward, taking my daughter into my arms, wrapping her tightly in her pink knitted blanket.
She opened her tiny blue eyes, looking up at me, completely blissfully unaware of the war that had just been fought to protect her future.
