"You see, Mara," Gabriel’s voice echoed through the room like a death sentence. "While you were playing with code, I was mobilizing my private asset recovery team. You brought yourself right into a steel box."
"The police are already on their way, Gabriel," I declared, my fingers secretly hitting the execution command for Protocol Zero. 100% complete.
"The local police won't reach the 50th floor in time," Gabriel replied calmly. "Hand over the encryption keys, Mara. Bring the child to the rooftop helipad. Do it, and I will let your father live out the rest of his days in peace."

"He’s in London!" I gasped, looking at Gabriel on the screen. "He’s not on a boat! He’s right here in the city!"
Gabriel’s smile faltered for the briefest fraction of a second on the screen—the first sign of genuine surprise I had seen from him.
"You really are your father's daughter," Gabriel said, his voice losing its playful edge. "Break the doors down," he commanded someone off-camera.

The screen went black.
Down in the lobby below, the loud, thunderous boom of breaching charges shattered the silence of the tower.
