Chapter 15 - The Boardroom Coup|

The entire boardroom descended into absolute chaos.

“Mara?!” one director gasped, standing up. “My God, what happened to your face?”

Silas’s face turned an horrific shade of chalk white. His eyes darted frantically toward the doorway, praying to see hospital security or his private guards, but my father’s men had already quietly incapacitated the floor security minutes before we entered.

“This... this is a private board meeting!” Silas stammered, desperately trying to regain control of his voice. “You are trespassers! Security!”

“Your security team has been relieved of duty, Mr. Vance,” Amara Vale announced, stepping forward and placing a heavy stack of legal documents directly in front of the board secretary.

“Who the hell are you?” Silas snarled at Amara.

“I am Amara Vale, lead counsel representing Mara Osei-Vance,” Amara introduced herself loudly so the entire room could hear. “And I am serving this board with an immediate Federal Injunction halting Resolution 409.”

I used the controls on my motorized wheelchair to drive right up to the head of the mahogany table, stopping directly opposite Silas.

“You told the board I was psychologically incapacitated, Silas,” I said, my voice echoing with terrifying authority. “Why don't you tell them what really happened in my hospital room at 1:00 AM?”

“She’s insane!” Silas yelled at the board members, pointing a shaking finger at me. “She’s having a psychotic episode! Look at her! She brought armed thugs into our office!”

“Dr. Kessler,” Marcus Osei called out softly from the doorway. “Please step forward and clarify the situation for the board.”

Dr. Kessler crept out from behind my father’s bodyguards, trembling like a leaf. He wouldn't even look Silas in the eye.

“Kessler?” Silas gasped, stunned. “What are you doing?”

Dr. Kessler cleared his throat nervously.

“I... I wish to surrender my vote to Mara Vance,” Kessler squeaked out. “And I wish to submit a full confession regarding Silas Vance’s embezzlement through Kade Capital and his conspiracy with Odalys Crane.”

Gasps erupted from every single director at the table.

“You traitor!” Silas screamed, lunging across the table toward Kessler, but my father’s lead commander instantly stepped in, grabbing Silas by the throat and slamming him back into his leather executive chair.

“Sit down, Mr. Vance,” my father commanded softly from the foot of the table.
