Chapter 19 - The Father’s Retribution|

Marcus walked over to my desk, picked up his secure satellite phone, and dialed a twelve-digit encrypted number.

He pressed the speakerphone button.

After two rings, a gravelly, accent-heavy voice answered from across the globe.

“So,” the voice rasped with a cold, mocking chuckle. “The Sovereign has finally picked up the phone. I wondered how long it would take you to realize I was behind your son-in-law’s pathetic little scheme.”

It was Victor Kade.

I gripped the edge of my desk, my blood boiling as I heard the voice of the man who had orchestrated the nightmare of my life.

“Victor,” Marcus said, his voice terrifyingly calm. “You touched my daughter.”

“I gave your daughter a lesson in reality, Marcus!” Kade laughed sinisterly over the line. “You thought you could hide in your little garage and play normal family while I built an empire! I took your daughter’s company, I took her patents, and I almost took her baby!”

“You haven't taken anything, Victor,” Marcus replied softly. “Look at your computer screen.”

There was a sudden, sharp silence on the line.

Across the ocean in Kade’s fortified estate, the sound of rapid, panicked typing echoed through the speaker.

“What... what did you do?” Kade’s voice suddenly lost all its arrogant confidence, replacing it with rising panic. “What is this?!”

“While you were busy watching Silas Vance try to steal my daughter’s company,” Marcus explained smoothly, “my cyber-tactical units executed an automated sweep of every bank account, shell company, and real estate trust connected to The Apex Group.”

“My accounts... my accounts are wiped!” Kade screamed hysterically. “Fifty billion dollars! Where is my money?!”

“Your money has been donated to international crime victim funds and pediatric medical charities,” Amara Vale interjected cleanly into the phone.

“You’re broke, Victor,” Marcus said coldly. “And as of three minutes ago, I leaked your exact satellite GPS coordinates to the International Criminal Court and three private military task forces who have been hunting you for twenty years.”

“You bastard!” Kade shrieked through the speaker. “I will kill you! I will find your daughter and—”

CLICK.

Marcus hung up the phone casually, tossing it onto the desk as if it were a piece of garbage.

Outside the office window, the sun broke fully through the clouds, bathing the entire room in brilliant, golden light.

My father walked over to my wheelchair, knelt down beside me, and placed his hand over my belly.

“It’s over, my girl,” Marcus whispered, smiling softly. “You and your daughter are safe.”
