I stood up from the table, my hands trembling as I pulled my coat tightly around myself.
"I want to talk to him," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "Alone."
Sterling nodded slowly and gestured toward the heavy door of the interrogation room. "Take as long as you need, Clara."
I walked across the hallway, my heels clicking against the cold tile floor. I pushed open the door to the interrogation room. The heavy steel door clicked shut behind me, locking us in silence.
Ethan looked up immediately, a hopeful smile touching his lips as he stood up.
"Clara," he said, stepping forward. "Sterling said the immunity paper went through. We can go home now. We can get Noah and Lily and start over."
"Did you forge my name on a Zurich trust three weeks ago, Ethan?" I asked, staying near the door, my voice cold and flat.
Ethan froze mid-step. The hopeful expression on his face shattered, replaced by a dark, guarded stillness.
"Sterling showed you the files," Ethan said quietly, dropping his hands to his sides.

"Answer me!" I shouted, tears finally spilling over my cheeks. "Did you set me up as your backup plan?"
"It wasn't a setup, Clara!" Ethan said desperately, taking a fast step toward me. "If Victor's men breached my clinic in Idaho, I knew they would kill me. I needed to ensure that money was transferred to an account where you and the kids could access it if I died! I forged the power of attorney so you wouldn't be left penniless!"
