Chapter 11 - Siege in the Dark

"Thomas, get Clara and the twins into the safe room now!" Logan ordered, drawing his tactical pistol and flipping off his safety switch.
I ran to the primary bedroom, scooping Lily and Noah out of their crib into my arms. Thomas led us into the master closet, pushing back a row of heavy coats to reveal a heavy steel door equipped with a digital keypad.
Thomas punched in the seven-digit pin, and the steel door clicked open with a heavy pneumatic hiss.
"Get inside, Clara," Thomas urged.
"Where are you going?" I asked, holding my babies close.
"I'm securing the legal files," Thomas said, grabbing his briefcase. "If they get Ethan's drive, everything we built falls apart!"
Before Thomas could lock the outer closet door, heavy footsteps sprinted up the hardwood hallway steps.
BOOM!
A gunshot echoed through the hallway, followed by the heavy thud of a body hitting the floor.
"Logan!" I cried out softly, my heart hammering against my ribs.
Through the narrow crack of the closet door, I saw a tall man in a black tactical mask step into the master bedroom, holding a suppressed assault rifle.
He wasn't one of Victor Vance's men.
On his jacket was a patch bearing a crest I recognized instantly—the logo of Bell Construction.
