Chapter 33 - Chaos in the Ballroom

Victor Vance staggered backward, a red stain blooming on his right shoulder. His gun dropped to the polished floor, clattering under a table.
Ethan stepped out from behind a velvet curtain near the stage, a smoking weapon in his hand.
"Get away from her, Victor!" Ethan barked, his voice echoing over the screaming crowd.
Arthur looked between Ethan and the massive screens still leaking his empire's dark secrets to the world. A look of total insanity crossed my father's face. He lunged toward Victor's dropped firearm on the floor.
"Logan!" I screamed.
Logan appeared out of the panic-stricken crowd, vaulting over a fallen table and tackling Arthur to the ground before my father's hand could reach the weapon. Logan pinned Arthur’s arms behind his back, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
"It's over, Arthur," Logan said grimly, pressing his knee into my father's spine. "FBI task force is already in the lobby."
Sirens wailed outside the high glass windows of the convention center. Heavy boots pounded against the marble floor as dozens of federal agents in tactical vests poured into the ballroom, weapons raised.
"Federal agents! Put your hands up! On the ground now!"
Ethan dropped his weapon immediately, raising his hands and dropping to his knees. I rushed over to him, kneeling beside him on the debris-strewn floor as agents swarmed the area, securing Victor Vance and my father.

Ethan looked at me, breath coming heavy, his dark eyes filled with relief and apprehension.
"The feed went global, Clara," Ethan whispered. "It's done. You're safe."
