Chapter 34 - The Interrogation

Four hours later, I sat inside a dimly lit observation room at the Federal Building in downtown Seattle. Steam rose from a untouched paper cup of coffee on the metal table in front of me.
Through the two-way mirror, I watched Assistant Director Thomas Sterling sit across from Ethan in an interrogation room.
Logan walked into my room, carrying two warm coats, and set one over my shoulders.
"How are Noah and Lily?" I asked quietly without taking my eyes off Ethan.
"Safe," Logan replied gently. "My team moved them to my cabin in Leavenworth. They're fast asleep."
"And Arthur?"
"Your father signed a full confession twenty minutes ago," Logan said. "Victor Vance is being held in federal medical custody before his transfer to a maximum-security facility. The evidence on that hard drive was ironclad, Clara. Vance Global is finished."
The door to the interrogation room opened across the hall, and Thomas Sterling walked out, holding a blue folder. He entered my room, his expression exhausted but victorious.
"Mrs. Walker," Sterling said, pulling out a chair and sitting opposite me. "I owe you an apology for keeping you in the dark for six months. If Ethan hadn't agreed to act as our primary undercover operative, we never would have brought down Arthur's network."
"Is Ethan free to go?" I asked directly.

Sterling paused, looking down at his folder before looking back up at me.
"Technically, yes. His federal immunity deal has been processed and signed by the Attorney General. But... there is something you need to see before you leave with him."
