The sprawling, state-of-the-art facility was funded entirely, in perpetuity, by the redirected profits of the corporation. The opening ceremony was a grand, highly publicized affair, yet it managed to retain an atmosphere of profound, intimate warmth.
As I stepped up to the polished wooden podium to deliver the keynote address, I looked out over the sea of hundreds of faces gathered in the main atrium. I saw politicians and business leaders, but more importantly, I saw dozens of women whose eyes held the same haunting, familiar shadows I had once seen in my own reflection in the mirror.
