Chapter 29 - The Decisive Board Meeting
The morning of the annual general shareholder meeting arrived, and the atmosphere inside the cavernous executive boardroom was as tense and brittle as a drawn bowstring. Marcus made a grand, theatrical entrance, his face plastered with the unbearable, gloating smirk of a man who firmly believed he had already won the war. Without hesitation, he commandeered the floor and aggressively submitted a formal resolution demanding my immediate termination as Chief Executive Officer.
Pacing the length of the massive mahogany table, Marcus launched into a vicious, calculated monologue. He cited the leaked, fabricated financial reports, painting a dire picture of a company teetering on the absolute edge of catastrophic bankruptcy. He blamed the fictitious losses entirely on my "emotional fragility," my "gross mismanagement," and my "reckless obsession" with the charity foundation.
"The time for sentimental, bleeding-heart leadership is over," Marcus declared loudly, locking his predatory gaze on me. "It is time to return Apex Development to its rightful, dominant position in the market, under the guidance of someone who actually understands the ruthless nature of business." I remained seated at the head of the table, perfectly motionless, my expression completely unreadable as I allowed him to finish digging his own grave.
