Chapter 16 - The Midnight Board Meeting

The destruction of Ethan’s empire did not happen in a courtroom; it happened in the sterile quiet of the hospital ward, executed with clinical precision. Chloe had already prepared the digital packets. She hit 'send' on her encrypted laptop, dispatching the damning evidence to Apex Development’s outside directors, the bank’s corporate fraud division, and the district attorney’s white-collar crime unit.

The response was immediate and devastating.

At 1:17 a.m., an emergency virtual meeting of the Apex board of directors was convened. Presented with undeniable proof of a $4.8 million embezzlement scheme and video evidence of the CEO's violent felony assault, the vote took less than ten minutes. Ethan was unanimously stripped of his title, his salary, and his access to the building.

At 1:31 a.m., the bank’s fraud division triggered their internal protocols. They froze every corporate account associated with Apex, as well as Ethan’s personal offshore holdings. His credit cards were instantly declined; his digital wallets were locked.

At 1:46 a.m., a judge, woken up by the district attorney, signed a sweeping search warrant. Officers were dispatched to the Apex headquarters and to our home to seize Ethan’s laptop, his phone, and his physical files.

Sitting in the hospital chair, Ethan listened to Chloe recount the timeline. The arrogance that had defined his life drained away, leaving a hollow, trembling shell. In less than two hours, a woman lying in a hospital bed had stripped him of everything he had ever valued.
