Chapter 19 - The Plea Deal
Before they led him away, Liam opened the glass door. He looked at the broken man in handcuffs. "You taught her that silence was permission," Liam said coldly. "Now go explain that lesson to a jury."
Ethan looked desperately from Liam back to me. "Tell them it was an accident," he begged, tears finally spilling over. "I'll get help. I'll go to rehab. We can fix this, please."
For years, those exact words, accompanied by roses, had followed every blow. This time, they sounded pathetic and small. I pressed the call button. The police officer stepped forward. "I'm ready to complete my formal statement," I said, looking right through my husband.
The legal fallout was swift and merciless. Ethan was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, coercive control, evidence tampering, and massive financial crimes. Beatrice was indicted for conspiracy and money laundering.
