Chapter 27 - The Trap is Set

Rather than adopting a defensive posture and desperately pleading with the board to protect the charity foundation, I chose a far more aggressive, unorthodox strategy: I decided to lay a trap. Working in absolute secrecy, I orchestrated the intentional leak of a meticulously fabricated, highly confidential financial report. This doctored document painted a bleak, terrifying picture of Apex Development, falsely indicating that our cash reserves were completely depleted and that I was preparing to mortgage a series of core, irreplaceable corporate assets just to keep the lights on.

Marcus, blinded by his inherent arrogance and desperate for a swift victory, swallowed the bait whole. Believing I was trapped in a corner and hemorrhaging capital, he aggressively liquidated his own legitimate assets and mobilized massive amounts of illicit funding from his underground syndicates. He was rapidly pooling resources to launch a devastating, hostile takeover during the upcoming annual shareholder meeting.

He wanted to crush my spirit and swallow Apex whole in one theatrical, irreversible strike. He believed the fabricated narrative entirely, convinced that a woman with my traumatic history would naturally buckle and collapse under the immense weight of corporate ruin. He vastly underestimated the resilience of a survivor.
