Chapter 40 - The Legacy

The estate was silent, save for the chirping of crickets and the soft breathing of my son as he slept inside. I sat on the terrace, watching the moon rise, the silver light casting long shadows across the lawn.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the small, black envelope from the beginning of this journey. It was worn, the edges frayed.
I tore it into tiny pieces and let the wind carry them away into the darkness.
The Serpent’s legacy was gone. The bloodline was no longer a curse, but a story—a story I would tell Ethan one day, not to scare him, but to show him what he was capable of.
I stood up and turned back toward the house.
I wasn't the woman under the bed anymore. I was the one who had walked through the fire and emerged, not as a victim, but as a guardian.
And as I walked into the house, I knew that no matter what the future held, I would be ready. Because the hardest part of the war wasn't winning it. It was finding the strength to keep living after it was over.
