Chapter 37 - The Final Piece

We were miles away when the exhaustion finally hit. I sat in the boat, staring at the burning horizon, the drive clutched tightly in my hand.
"Did we get him?" Arthur asked, breathless.
"He’s gone," I said, watching the smoke rise. "The Serpent's head is severed."
"What about the rest of the body?"
"The data on this drive will expose every remaining cell, every corrupt official, every secret facility," I said. "We don't need to hunt them anymore. The world will do it for us."
Arthur looked at me, a profound sense of peace settling over him. "It's over, Amanda."
"It's over," I repeated.
For the first time in my life, the word didn't feel like a lie.
