Chapter 36 - The Trap

"Did you think I didn't know you were coming?" Silas laughed. "This island is wired to explode at the first sign of unauthorized entry. You’ve walked right into your own grave."

"Arthur, get the data!" I shouted, firing at Silas.

He dived behind a control desk as the room began to shake violently.

"I'm downloading it!" Arthur yelled, his hands flying across the terminal.

"We need to get out of here!" I screamed, covering Arthur as he worked.

The walls began to crack, the facility’s structural integrity failing. Silas had triggered the self-destruct.

"Got it!" Arthur grabbed the drive.

"Let's move!"

We bolted for the exit, dodging falling debris and explosions. The hallway was a maze of fire and collapsing concrete. We reached the stairs, sprinting up as the lower levels disintegrated.

We burst out into the night air just as the entire bunker collapsed into the earth with a deafening roar.

The island was shaking, the ground opening up.

"To the beach!" I yelled, pulling Arthur toward the shoreline where a small boat waited.

We jumped into the water and swam, reaching the boat as the island crumbled behind us.

We drove away into the darkness, the flames lighting up the sky.
