Chapter 28 - The Siege of the Cabin

The first grenade hit the side of the cabin, the explosion rocking the foundation. Dust poured from the ceiling, and the lights flickered and died.
"Elias, status!" I shouted.
"The server is still uploading!" he yelled back. "Do not let them in until it hits 100%!"
I looked at the monitors. The attackers were advancing through the snow, wearing white camouflage. They were well-equipped and moved with chilling efficiency.
"Arthur, cover the east window! I'll take the front!"
I kicked over a heavy oak table, using it as cover. The wood splintered as bullets peppered it. I leaned out, firing with steady precision. One of the attackers dropped, his body sliding down the snowy embankment.
"They're flanking us!" Arthur yelled.
I checked my watch. Five minutes left.
"Throw the flashbangs!" I commanded.
Arthur tossed two grenades through the window. The bright, disorienting flashes lit up the night, followed by the screams of the attackers. We had a momentary reprieve.
"Three minutes!" Elias screamed.
The front door buckled under a heavy ram. I rushed to the door, jamming a metal chair handle through the handles. It wouldn't hold forever, but it would hold for a minute.
"Why are they fighting so hard for a file?" I wondered aloud.

"Because it’s not just a file," Elias shouted over the sound of the door cracking. "It’s the list of donors! If the public sees who is funding them, the entire establishment collapses!"
"Then let's make sure they see it," I said, putting my back against the door as it splintered.
