Chapter 38 - Returning Home

Two weeks later, the world was a different place. The revelations from the island had caused a global earthquake. Governments were falling, corporations were being investigated, and the Serpent’s Keepers were being hunted down one by one by international task forces.
I sat on the terrace at the Jacaranda Lane estate, the sun setting just as it had that day a year ago.
Ethan was playing with the puppy, his laughter ringing out across the garden. He was happy. He was free.
Arthur walked out, carrying two glasses of wine.
"It’s quiet," he said, handing me one.
"It’s perfect," I agreed.
"Are you going to look back?"
May you like
"No," I said, watching Ethan run. "I'm looking forward."
The security cameras were still there, blinking quietly, but they no longer felt like a prison. They were a shield, and I knew how to use them.
