Chapter 9 - The Ranting Man at the Door|

“Open the door! Margaret! I know you’re in there!” Brandon screamed outside, pounding his fists repeatedly against the oak door.
I motioned for Emily to step back into the bedroom and lock the door securely.
I calmly walked over and looked through the security camera monitor. Brandon looked utterly pathetic. His clothes were disheveled, his eyes bloodshot, and heavy whiffs of alcohol seemed to radiate through the screen.
I pressed the intercom button.
“You’re violating a restraining order, Brandon. The police are on their way.”
“You ruined my life, damn it!” He screamed, pointing a finger at the camera. “She left me! That blonde bitch ran away the moment my accounts were frozen! Are you happy now? Open the door, I need to talk to Emily! She has to give me money, or loan sharks are going to kill my mother!”
“Then let them do their job,” I replied coldly.
“You’re cold-blooded!” Brandon lost control, grabbed a decorative brick from the flower bed, and smashed it hard against the window glass.
The tempered glass cracked but didn't shatter. The house security alarm wailed loudly.
Right at that moment, the flashing red and blue lights of two police cars rushed up to the gate. Officers drew their weapons, ordering Brandon to lie face down on the ground. He resisted, shouting like a madman, and ended up being pinned to the grass and handcuffed.

I opened the door and watched him get loaded into the police car.
“Say hi to your mother in jail for me, Brandon,” I whispered softly.
