Chapter 6 - Brandon’s Performance|

I picked up Emily’s phone directly and pressed answer, putting it on speaker.
“Emily! Thank God you picked up!” Brandon’s voice rang out, full of panic and fake anguish. “Where are you? I stayed up all night looking for you. What happened yesterday was a terrible misunderstanding. My mother went too far, I admit that, but you can’t just walk out like this!”
I let out a cold, chilling laugh.
“You didn't stay up all night looking for your wife, Brandon. You stayed up all night because loan sharks were calling you for money, right?”
Silence fell on the other end for a moment. When Brandon spoke again, his sweet facade had vanished entirely.
“Mother-in-law. Put Emily on the phone. You have no right to tear our family apart. Emily is my wife, and she is carrying my child!”
“She is in a safe place, far away from you and your wicked mother,” I replied calmly.
“You think cutting off the trust fund solves everything?” Brandon started growling. “I’ll take you to court. I’ll sue Emily for fetal kidnapping! You can’t win against me.”
“Fetal kidnapping? Did you forget the baby isn't even born yet?” I smirked. “Save your energy for yourself, Brandon. I filed for divorce on Emily’s behalf. A restraining order was also accepted by the court this morning.”
I hung up and blocked his number immediately.
Emily looked at me, a spark of resilience finally igniting in her eyes.

“Mom, he won’t let this go. He’ll find every way to smear us.”
“Let him try,” I stood up, looking out the glass window. “The more he struggles, the tighter the noose will wrap around his own neck.”
