Chapter 5 - The Truth About the Trust Fund|

The next morning, Emily and I sat in the office of our family attorney, Mr. Harrison. The warm aroma of coffee did little to ease the tension of the previous night.
“So everything Margaret announced yesterday is true, Mr. Harrison?” Emily asked timidly.
Attorney Harrison smiled, pushing a thick file across the desk toward Emily.
“That’s right, Emily. Margaret’s late husband, your father, was a very wise man. He set up a trust fund for you, but it came with a secret clause that only your mother and I knew about.”
I took my daughter's hand, explaining further:
“The clause stated clearly that this 10-million-dollar trust fund would only be activated and disbursed if your marriage remained entirely financially independent during the first five years. If there were any signs of embezzlement, fraud, or abuse from your husband's family... I have the legal right to freeze it completely.”
“And Patricia always assumed that the moment you gave birth, the trust fund would automatically transfer into a joint account belonging to you and Brandon,” Mr. Harrison smirked. “She borrowed over two million dollars from loan sharks to save her failing real estate firm, promising to pay them back with your money.”
Emily turned pale.
“So that’s why they were always rushing me to get pregnant? Lily was just... a tool for them to cash out?”

“Yes, my dear,” I nodded gently, my eyes turning cold. “They never loved you or this baby. They only saw a safe. But now, that safe is locked tight, and the key has been thrown away.”
Emily’s phone buzzed incessantly on the desk. Dozens of missed calls from Brandon. The real game was just beginning.
