Chapter 3 - The Woman He Chose

My son Carlos is a fundamentally good man. He possesses a heart of gold and a work ethic that fills me with immense pride. He works tirelessly, driving a ride-hailing taxi through the chaotic, congested streets of the city.
He pulls double shifts almost every single day, his hands gripping the steering wheel until his knuckles turn white. He leaves the house in the freezing, dark hours of the early morning before the sun has even considered rising, and he returns long after the streetlights have flickered on and the rest of us are fast asleep.

He sacrifices his body and his time so that his family never lacks anything. He puts food on the table, pays the ever-increasing electricity and water bills, and always makes a point to buy the biggest bag of premium dog food for Capitán.
But Carlos’s greatest flaw is his trusting nature. He believes blindly that while he is out conquering the world, his wife is taking care of running the household, making sure their children eat nutritious meals and go to school clean and happy. Valeria... well, Valeria is an entirely different story.
