Chapter 29 - The Courtroom

Four months later, the legal nightmare reached its absolute climax in the state courthouse.

I sat in the front row of the gallery, gripping my wooden cane, while Carlos sat rigidly beside me. Toño, the neighbor who had helped me install the hidden camera, sat on my other side, offering his silent, unyielding support.

Valeria was led into the courtroom wearing a faded beige prison uniform. Her acrylic nails were gone, her hair was a messy, faded brown, and the arrogant, sociopathic smirk she used to wear had been completely erased.

Her public defender looked entirely defeated before the trial even began.

"The prosecution calls Mrs. Rosa to the stand,"

The prosecutor announced.

I walked slowly to the witness box. I did not falter. I looked directly at the monster who had starved my grandchildren, and I told the judge every single detail of her cruelty.

But the final nail in her coffin was not my testimony.

It was the video.

The prosecutor projected the hidden camera footage onto the massive screen in the courtroom. The entire gallery gasped in sheer horror as they watched Valeria throw the dog bowl onto the floor, screaming at the crying children to get on their knees.

Valeria buried her face in her hands, weeping loudly, completely destroyed by her own undeniable reflection.
