Chapter 19 - Walking the Aisle

The outdoor chapel in the countryside was bathed in late-afternoon gold.
Violins played a soft, romantic melody as two hundred guests sat in the white pews surrounding the floral altar.
Daniel stood at the front, looking sharp in a black tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the entrance doors. Beside him stood Richard as his best man, while Barbara sat quietly in the front row, wearing a simple navy dress, clapping softly with a peaceful smile.
The doors opened.
I stepped onto the aisle, wearing a stunning ivory lace gown that flowed around my ankles, carrying a bouquet of white roses and eucalyptus.
As I walked toward Daniel, I saw the genuine admiration and love beaming from his face. I was no longer the secret nurse, nor just the Chief Surgeon. I was simply the woman who had fought for her self-respect and won.
Daniel took my hand as I reached the altar, whispering, “You take my breath away.”
“You look pretty good yourself,” I smiled back.
The minister stepped forward, opening his book. “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to unite Daniel and Emily in holy matrimony...”
The vows were exchanged with tears, laughter, and deep conviction.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister declared. “You may kiss the bride!”
Daniel pulled me into a deep, sweeping kiss as the guests erupted into cheers and applause.
