Barbara rested her champagne glass on the tablecloth, leaning across the candlelit table toward Dr. Julian Vance.
“So you’re saying there’s a way to remove her?” Barbara whispered, her eyes flashing with renewed vengeance.
Julian took a slow sip of his wine. “Emily Carter’s position as Chief of Surgery depends entirely on her clean administrative record. If the Board finds evidence of procedural negligence or an undisclosed conflict of interest, they will be forced to suspend her.”

Julian smiled wolfishly. “She operated on Richard Reynolds—a man whose son she is engaged to marry—without filing a formal familial relationship waiver with the hospital ethics committee beforehand.”
Barbara gasped softly. “Is that illegal?”
“It’s a serious breach of hospital policy,” Julian explained. “Normally, it’s overlooked in life-or-death emergencies. But if a board member—or a concerned family member—files a formal ethics complaint claiming she used her position to force the surgery for personal gain...”
Barbara’s lips curled into a sinister smile.
“I can write that letter tomorrow,” Barbara declared. “I’ll claim she rushed Richard into the operating room without my consent as his legal healthcare proxy.”
