Chapter 33 - The Wedding

Years later, the mansion hosted another celebration.
Emma was getting married.
She had met him in law school.
A public defender.
A man who shared her passion for justice.
A man who was not intimidated by Alessandro Moretti.
(Which was a requirement, as far as Alessandro was concerned.)
The wedding was held in the gardens of the estate.
It was a beautiful spring day.
The cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
As the music started, Alessandro offered Emma his arm.
She looked radiant.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
"Always," she replied.
They walked down the aisle together.
A father and daughter.
Bound by choice.
Bound by love.
When the officiant asked, "Who gives this woman to be married?"
Alessandro didn't say, "I do."
He said, "Her mother and I do."
He looked at me, and I smiled through my tears.
As Emma and her new husband exchanged vows, I thought about the journey that had brought us here.
The lies.
The pain.
May you like
The redemption.
It had all led to this moment of pure, unadulterated joy.
