Chapter 17 - The Visit

|

Richard’s hand shook so violently the revolver clattered against the oak desk.

“What are you going to do to me?” he sobbed, the arrogant patriarch finally broken into a pathetic, weeping mess. “Are you going to kill me?”

“Death is a mercy you haven’t earned,” I said softly.

Elias stepped forward and placed a thick stack of legal documents on the desk.

“Sign them,” I commanded.

Richard looked at the papers through tear-filled eyes. “What is this?”

“A complete transfer of your remaining assets, your properties, and your name. Everything you own now belongs to a charitable trust established in the name of the grandchild you murdered.”

Richard gasped. “You’re leaving me with nothing? I’ll be on the street!”

“You won’t be on the street,” I corrected. “You’re going to a specialized psychiatric facility. My facility. The doctors there have been informed that you suffer from severe, violent delusions. You will be heavily medicated. You will be locked in a padded room with no windows. And you will remain there until your body finally gives out.”

“No!” Richard shrieked, lunging for the gun.

Elias was faster. He snatched the revolver and slammed Richard’s face into the desk.

“Sign,” I whispered, pressing a pen into his trembling hand.

Broken, sobbing, and defeated, Richard scrawled his signature on the documents. The empire he had killed his grandchild to protect vanished with the stroke of a pen.

My men dragged him out of the study, kicking and screaming into the night.

I stood in the silent room for a long moment, looking at the empty desk. The revenge was complete. The family that had tortured my wife was eradicated from the face of the earth.

It was time to go home.
