Chapter 13 - The Revelation

|

Clara was sitting up in bed, staring blankly at the rain lashing against the reinforced glass window. Her bruises were fading into a sickly yellow, but the pain in her eyes was permanent.

She turned as I entered, managing a fragile, broken smile.

“You’ve been busy,” she whispered.

I froze. “What do you mean?”

She pointed to a tablet resting on her lap. “The nurses tried to hide it from me, but I saw the news. Vincent, Marcus, and Leo are in federal prison. Thomas, Henry, and Julian are publicly destroyed.”

She looked at me, her eyes searching my face.

“This isn’t coincidence, Adrian. This is you.”

I sat on the edge of the bed and took her cold hands in mine.

“Yes. It’s me.”

“My father always called you a glorified accountant,” Clara said, her voice trembling slightly. “He said you were just a lucky businessman. But businessmen don’t ground private jets. Businessmen don’t command the FBI.”

She squeezed my fingers.

“Who are you, Adrian? Truly?”

I took a deep breath.

“I am the man who funds the shadows, Clara. Politicians, judges, corporations—they all exist because I allow them to. I control the infrastructure of the elite. I hid it from you because I wanted you to have a normal, safe life. I thought my money was enough to shield you from your family.”

Tears welled in her eyes. “They killed our baby, Adrian.”

“I know.”

She didn't pull away in fear. She didn't look at me like a monster. Instead, she leaned forward, resting her forehead against my chest.

“Don't show them mercy,” she whispered, her voice hardening with a sudden, fierce resolve. “Burn them all to the ground.”
