Chapter 12 - The Blacklist

|
Brothers four, five, and six—Thomas, Henry, and Julian—were the socialites of the family. They relied on their charm, their exclusive country club memberships, and their wealthy wives to maintain their illusion of superiority.
I didn't need to send the FBI to destroy them. I only needed to destroy their names.
At exactly 8:00 a.m., a synchronized data dump was released to every major news outlet, gossip blog, and high-society newsletter in the country.
The files contained everything.
Thomas’s secret second family in Miami, funded by embezzled charity money.
Henry’s private text messages proving he had been blackmailing the city’s mayor for lucrative zoning permits.
Julian’s gambling debts to dangerous cartels, debts he had tried to pay off by offering up his own wife’s trust fund as collateral.
The fallout was instantaneous and apocalyptic.
Thomas’s wife locked him out of their estate and froze their joint accounts before he even woke up. When he tried to check into a hotel, his credit cards were declined.
Henry was publicly expelled from his firm, and the mayor he had blackmailed immediately threw him under the bus to save himself, launching a highly publicized corruption probe.
Julian didn't even make it to his car. The cartel he owed money to saw the leaked documents proving he was broke. They intercepted him in his driveway.
I didn't need to lay a finger on them. Their own greed and arrogance devoured them alive.
By noon, three more brothers were ruined, destitute, and begging for help from a society that had completely blacklisted their family name.

I walked into the medical suite to check on Clara. It was time she knew the truth.
