Chapter 14 - The Betrayal Within

|

The remaining two brothers, Arthur and Simon, were the youngest. They were the ones who had held Clara down while their father delivered the kicks that ended our child's life.

They were terrified.

With six brothers ruined and their mercenary army destroyed, survival instinct finally eclipsed their loyalty to their father.

My phone rang at 2:00 a.m. The caller ID was blocked, but I knew exactly who it was.

“Adrian,” Arthur’s voice shook so violently I could barely understand him. “Adrian, please. You have to listen to me.”

“I’m listening,” I said coldly.

“It was him! It was Dad!” Simon screamed in the background. “He made us do it! He said if we didn’t help him, he’d cut us out of the will! We didn’t want to hurt Clara, we swear!”

I closed my eyes, the memory of Clara’s broken body flashing in my mind.

“What do you want, Arthur?”

“A deal,” Arthur begged. “We’ll give him to you. We’ll testify. We have recordings of him ordering the hit on the baby to protect the trust fund. We’ll give you everything you need to lock him away forever. Just let us walk away. Let us leave the country.”

They were selling out their own father to save their pathetic lives. The family built on toxic loyalty was eating itself alive.

“Bring the recordings to the abandoned shipyard on Pier 4 in one hour,” I ordered. “Come alone.”

“Thank you, Adrian! Thank you!”

I hung up the phone and looked at Elias, who was standing quietly in the corner of the room.

“Are we letting them walk, sir?” Elias asked.

I stood up, adjusting my jacket.

“I told Clara I wouldn't show mercy. Prepare the shipping containers.”
