Chapter 11 - The Trap

|

The rain fell heavily over the city, turning the suspension bridge into a slick, isolated stretch of steel and concrete.

On the live drone feed, I watched my decoy convoy—three armored SUVs—drive slowly across the bridge. Suddenly, a massive semi-truck pulled sideways across the exit, blocking the path entirely.

From behind, two heavily modified tactical vehicles boxed the convoy in.

The Petrov mercenaries poured out, armed with assault rifles and explosive charges. They thought they had me trapped. They thought this would be a quick, clean execution.

They were wrong.

Before the mercenaries could fire a single shot, the bridge’s massive streetlights went dead. Total darkness.

“Execute,” I whispered into my comms.

From the cables above the bridge, my Blackout Team descended. They didn't use guns. They used silence, shadows, and lethal precision.

In the infrared feed, I watched my men systematically dismantle the mercenary squad. It was a slaughter. The Petrovs were highly trained, but my men were ghosts. Within four minutes, twelve mercenaries were incapacitated, disarmed, and zip-tied to the guardrails.

Not a single shot was fired.

The leader of the Petrov squad was dragged in front of the camera on my decoy vehicle. He looked terrified.

Elias held a phone to the mercenary’s ear.

“Call him,” Elias ordered.

I listened to the audio feed as Richard answered his phone, expecting confirmation of my death.

“Is it done?” Richard demanded.

“Mr. Petrov can’t come to the phone, Richard,” I said into my microphone, my voice broadcasting directly to his ear. “Your army is broken. Your money is gone. And I am just getting started.”

I hung up. The game of chess was over. Now, I was just clearing the board.
