Chapter 9 - Morning After Storm

|
By 6:00 a.m. the following morning, the internet had exploded.
The video of the ten slaps had gone viral across every major social media platform, accumulating over fifty million views overnight. Headlines dominated every financial news outlet:
MERCER DOMINION SOLD IN DRAMATIC BALLROOM COUP.
GRANT MERCER OUSTED AFTER MISTRESS SCANDAL.
EVELYN BENNETT EXECUTES $4.7B SALE TO VANCE CAPITAL.
Inside Grant’s luxurious Soho penthouse, chaos reigned supreme.
Grant was sitting on the edge of his velvet sofa, surrounded by empty whiskey glasses and frantic calls from board members, creditors, and public relations managers. His phone had been ringing non-stop for four hours.
“What do you mean my corporate card is declined?!” Grant screamed into the receiver. “I am the CEO of Mercer Dominion!”
“Not anymore, Mr. Mercer,” his chief financial officer replied coldly over the line. “Vance Capital locked down all executive accounts at midnight. Your corporate accounts, your executive jet privileges, and your company credit lines have been entirely revoked.”
Grant slammed the phone against the coffee table, shattering the glass top.
Chloe walked out of the master bedroom, wearing a silk robe, holding her swollen face.
“Grant, my manager just called,” she whined, tears welling in her eyes. “The brand deals I had lined up were canceled! They said I’m a brand risk! You need to give me money for my medical bills and my apartment rent!”
Grant jumped up, his eyes wild with rage.
“Money?! Do you have any idea what you did last night, you arrogant fool? You ruined me! You made me lose fifty-two percent of my company!”
“You said you were in control!” Chloe shrieked back. “You told me she was just a pathetic housewife who would do whatever you said!”
“Get out,” Grant growled through gritted teeth.
