Chapter 10 - Cracks in the Facade

“You can’t kick me out!” Chloe yelled, her voice piercing through the penthouse. “I’m pregnant with your child! You promised to take care of me!”
“I don't even know if that child is mine!” Grant bellowed back.
Chloe froze. Her face turned pale, her hand instinctively touching her stomach.
“How dare you...” she whispered.
“I know about the personal trainer in Miami, Chloe,” Grant sneered, stepping toward her. “I kept quiet because I wanted an heir and I wanted to hurt Evelyn. But now? I have nothing! My accounts are frozen, my reputation is destroyed, and the board is meeting in two hours to officially terminate my employment!”
Chloe stared at him, the realization settling into her mind. Grant Mercer wasn't a powerful, untouchable billionaire anymore. He was a disgraced executive facing complete financial ruin.
Without saying another word, she turned around, walked into the bedroom, and slammed the door shut to start packing her bags.
Grant sank back down onto the couch, putting his head in his hands.
His phone rang once more. It was his lead divorce attorney, Arthur Vance (no relation to Julian).
“Grant,” Arthur said flatly when Grant answered. “We have a massive problem.”
“What problem?” Grant asked, his voice shaking.
“Evelyn’s legal team just filed for an emergency freeze on all joint marital assets, pending a full forensic audit of your personal expenditures over the last three years.”
Grant’s heart stopped.

“Forensic audit?”
“They know about the $400,000 necklace, the Soho penthouse lease, and the wire transfers to Chloe Hart’s personal accounts,” Arthur warned. “If those funds came from corporate coffers, Evelyn isn't just going to take your money, Grant. She’s going to send you to federal prison for embezzlement.”
