Chapter 13 - The Firing of Grant Mercer

Julian took the seat directly to her right, laying out a thick stack of legal documents.
“Item one on the agenda,” Julian announced, his deep voice commanding total authority. “The immediate termination of Grant Mercer as Chief Executive Officer of Mercer Dominion Group, effective as of 9:02 a.m. today.”
One of Grant’s old loyalists on the board, a veteran director named Harold, cleared his throat nervously.
“Mrs. Mercer... while we respect your financial position, firing Grant so abruptly could cause severe stock volatility—”
“Stock volatility?” Evelyn interrupted sharply, turning her keen gaze on Harold. “Harold, the video of your former CEO encouraging his mistress to assault his wife has already wiped $1.2 billion off our market cap overnight. Leaving him in power for another hour will destroy what’s left.”
She slid a tablet across the table to Harold.
“Furthermore, my legal team has uncovered evidence that Grant misappropriated over $14 million in corporate funds over the last thirty-six months to fund personal real estate, jewelry, and lavish trips for Miss Chloe Hart.”
Harold looked down at the tablet, his face going pale as he scrolled through the bank statements and invoices.
“Is this real?” another director gasped.
“Every cent is accounted for,” Martin Shaw added, stepping forward from the corner of the room. “Unless the board wishes to be named as co-defendants in an imminent shareholder derivative lawsuit, I suggest you vote unanimously to terminate Grant Mercer for cause.”
Silence fell over the room.
Evelyn raised her hand.
“All those in favor?”

Every single director in the room, including Harold, slowly raised their hands into the air.
“Unanimous,” Evelyn declared, marking the paper with a pen. “Item two: The official name change of this corporation to Bennett-Vance Global.”
