Chapter 11 - The Boardroom Ambush

|

At 8:45 a.m., Grant arrived at the glass-and-steel headquarters of Mercer Dominion Group on Park Avenue.

He wore his finest suit, slicked his hair back, and tried to maintain an aura of authority despite the dark circles under his eyes. He stepped into the grand lobby, fully intending to march into the 50th-floor boardroom and assert his authority over the board of directors.

As he approached the executive elevator bank, two burly security guards stepped directly into his path.

“Move,” Grant commanded coldly. “I have a board meeting to attend.”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Mercer,” the lead guard said firmly. “Your security credentials have been revoked. You are no longer permitted past the lobby.”

“Do you know who I am?!” Grant roared, drawing the attention of dozens of employees arriving for work. “My name is on the front of this damn building!”

“Not for long,” a smooth, authoritative voice called out from behind him.

Grant spun around.

Walking across the marble lobby was Julian Vance, surrounded by a team of corporate attorneys and financial advisors.

Beside him walked Evelyn.

She looked radiant. She wore a tailored crimson pantsuit that screamed power, her hair styled in effortless waves, her red lipstick immaculate. There was no trace of the hurt or betrayed wife from twenty-four hours ago. She looked like a conqueror.

Grant’s mouth opened and closed in absolute shock.

“Evelyn...” he stammered.

She walked past him as if he were invisible, her gaze fixed entirely on the executive elevators.

“Julian,” Grant spat, stepping forward aggressively. “You can’t do this! This is a hostile takeover!”

Julian stopped, turning slowly to face Grant. He adjusted his jacket, his dark eyes brimming with cold amusement.

“Hostile?” Julian replied smoothly. “There was nothing hostile about it, Grant. Your wife sold me her controlling stake fair and square. In fact, she did it with a lovely smile.”
