Chapter 12 - The New Owner Arrives

“She had no right!” Grant yelled, gesturing wildly at Evelyn. “Those shares were meant for the Mercer bloodline!”

Evelyn stopped in front of the open elevator doors and turned around to look at him.

“Your father gave those shares to me because he knew you lacked the intellect, the discipline, and the morality to run a enterprise of this scale,” she said, her voice echoing clearly across the lobby. “He trusted me to protect his legacy. And today, I am protecting it by removing you from it.”

“You ruined my life!” Grant screamed, taking a step toward her.

Julian instantly stepped in front of Evelyn, towering over Grant with an imposing, muscular presence.

“Watch your posture, Grant,” Julian warned softly, his voice full of lethal promise. “You’re speaking to the majority shareholder and newly appointed Chairwoman of the Board.”

Grant stumbled back a step, looking at the two of them standing side by side.

“Chairwoman...?”

“The board meeting starts in five minutes,” Evelyn stated calmly. “You are welcome to sit in the public gallery if you’d like to watch your formal termination.”

The elevator doors chimed, and Evelyn, Julian, and their team stepped inside.

As the doors glided shut, Grant caught one final glimpse of Evelyn’s confident smile before the lift shot up toward the 50th floor.

Inside the grand boardroom, the twelve members of the board of directors were seated around the long mahogany table. They looked tense, nervous, and utterly terrified.

When Evelyn and Julian walked through the double doors, every single director stood up immediately.

Evelyn walked straight to the head of the table—the seat Grant had occupied for seven years—and pulled out the executive leather chair.

She sat down.

“Good morning, gentlemen,” Evelyn said, resting her hands on the table. “Let’s begin.”
