In a maximum-security prison hundreds of miles away, Adrian Vale sat in his cell.
The television in the common area was playing a news segment on the Blackthorn Foundation’s recent expansion. He watched the screen through the steel bars.
He saw Evelyn. She was giving a speech, looking powerful, radiant, and utterly untouchable.
He looked down at his own shaking, aged hands. He had spent his entire life trying to buy power, crush dissent, and control the narrative. But in the end, his legacy was a concrete cell, while her legacy was a beacon of light that was changing the world.
