The judge ruled in Evelyn's favor, permanently voiding the fraudulent lien and cementing the Blackthorn Foundation as the absolute, undisputed owner of the estate.

But Julian wasn't finished.

"Your Honor," Julian added. "Given the contents of the ledger, I have forwarded copies to the FBI's organized crime division. I believe they have warrants waiting for Mr. Thorne outside those doors."

Marcus spun around. Through the glass panels of the courtroom doors, federal agents were waiting in the hallway.

He looked at Maya, who was sitting in the gallery, flanked by two security guards. For the first time, he didn't look like a god. He looked like a cornered rat.

Maya stood up. She didn't cower. She looked her abuser in the eye, raised her chin, and smiled.

As Marcus was handcuffed and dragged out of the courtroom, the heavy weight that had hung over the sanctuary completely evaporated.
