Chapter 23 - The Unspoken Respect

Julian became a regular fixture at Blackthorn. He took on the foundation as his primary pro-bono client.
Late one evening, he and Evelyn were sitting in her office, reviewing tax exemptions. The fire crackled warmly in the hearth.
"You know," Julian said, looking up from his laptop. "I used to think people like you didn't exist. People who actually wanted to fix the world instead of just owning it."
Evelyn smiled, closing her ledger. "And I used to think lawyers like you only cared about billable hours."
Julian chuckled. "Don't ruin my reputation. I have a very scary persona to maintain."
He looked at her, the playful banter fading into something deeper, something grounded in profound mutual respect. "You changed me, Evelyn. You changed how I see my job. How I see... everything."
