Chapter 52 - The Sovereign's Ascent

|

Not a single person in the vault spoke a word of defiance. One by one, the most powerful criminals in Europe bowed their heads. The Italian boss stepped forward, pulling a heavy silver ring from his pocket—the official crest of the High Chair—and handed it to me.

"Long live the Sovereign," he murmured respectfully.

I slipped the ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly.

The transition of power was swift and bloody. Within twenty-four hours, Victoria Sterling’s loyalists across Europe were quietly purged by the Council. Her hidden bank accounts were seized, the stolen three billion euros redistributed to the rightful families, and her grand chateau in the Alps was burned to the ground to erase her memory from the earth.

Elias and I stood on the tarmac of the Geneva airport, watching the sun set over the snow-capped mountains. The Gulfstream was fueled and ready to take us back to America.

"We did it, Boss," Elias said, his voice carrying a rare tone of awe. "You united two continents. The Yates family controls everything from New York to Rome. It’s over."

"It's never over, Elias," I replied, pulling my black trench coat tighter against the biting Swiss wind. "Power is a living, breathing thing. If you stop feeding it, it consumes you instead. But for tonight... tonight we rest."

We boarded the private jet. As the plane climbed into the dark sky, leaving Europe behind, I opened my laptop and connected to the secure bunker line.

"Jax, report," I commanded.

Jax’s face appeared on the screen, looking exhausted but victorious. "All European assets have been fully integrated into our American shell companies, Emily. The transition is seamless. You are officially untouchable."

"Good work, Jax," I smiled faintly. "Take the week off. You earned it."

I closed the laptop and leaned back in the plush leather seat. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my mother’s faded photograph, running my thumb over her smiling face. I had finally avenged her. I had taken the empire that was stolen from her and made it my own.

For the first time in my life, I felt truly at peace. But in my world, peace was always a fleeting illusion.
