Chapter 27 - Blood in the Water

|

My war against Marcus Kane didn't begin with Tommy guns or car bombs. It began with an encrypted laptop sitting on my desk at Pier 9.

Using the master ledgers from the black envelope, I spent six hours analyzing Marcus Kane's financial infrastructure. The Coast Cartel appeared invincible because they used high-end legitimate front companies—commercial real estate firms, night clubs, and luxury car dealerships—to launder hundreds of millions in narcotics cash.

They had one glaring weakness: their primary clearing bank in Panama was owned by a shell company registered to Arthur Vance.

By 4:00 AM, I had frozen seven of Kane's primary laundering accounts using Arthur's stolen administrative passcodes. Over two hundred million dollars of cartel money was locked out instantly.

At 6:00 AM, I made an anonymous call directly to the Special Investigations Unit of the Treasury Department, leaking the exact routing numbers and transaction logs for Kane's remaining domestic assets.

By noon, federal agents were raiding fourteen of Marcus Kane's night clubs across three states, seizing cash, computers, and inventory.

Dad walked into my office at Pier 9, holding a tablet displaying the breaking news coverage. Headline banners read: MASSIVE FEDERAL BUST TARGETS COAST CARTEL FINANCIAL NETWORK.

"You ruined him without firing a single shot," Dad said, staring at the screen in absolute disbelief. "Kane’s lieutenant in Miami just called. They're panicking. Their suppliers are demanding payment, and Kane can't access a single dollar."

"Violence creates noise, Dad," I said, adjusting my leg braces beneath my desk. "Noise brings the police. But if you take a man's money, his own people will kill him for you."

Before Dad could answer, a loud explosion rocked the Pier 9 warehouse!

The concrete walls shook violently, dust and plaster falling from the ceiling like snow. Alarm sirens began blaring throughout the facility, followed by the rapid, frantic chatter of automatic gunfire coming from the loading bay downstairs!

Cooper sprang up from his dog bed, growling menacingly, his ears pinned back.

Dad pulled his silver revolver instantly, stepping in front of my desk. "Kane knows it was us. He sent a hit squad!"
