Chapter 2 - Shattered Loyalty

|

Chaos erupted. The heavy walnut table crashed backward, sending guests scrambling. Women screamed as shattered glass and spilled wine rained across the marble floor.

"Gun!" Marco shouted, stepping over the wreckage.

Alessandro had drawn a snub-nosed revolver from his waistband, firing wildly toward Dominic. The bullet shattered the chandelier above, raining sharp crystals down on the chaos.

Dominic didn't flinch. He lunged over the fallen table, tackling his brother to the ground. The two men wrestled for the weapon, sliding on the wine-slicked floor.

Sophia screamed, covering Lily with her own body and crawling frantically toward the safety of the heavy oak doors. "Keep your head down, baby! Keep your head down!" she sobbed.

Marco fired two warning shots into the ceiling. "Nobody move! Nobody leaves this room!"

Alessandro managed to throw a heavy punch to Dominic’s jaw, scrambling to his feet. He sprinted toward the terrace doors, shattering the glass with a chair and diving out into the stormy night.

Dominic stood up, wiping a thin trail of blood from his lip. His eyes were dark, burning with a cold fury. He looked around the devastated dining hall, taking in the terrified faces of his capos.

"Lock down the estate," Dominic barked. "No one gets in or out. Find him."

He turned slowly, his gaze landing on Sophia. The maid was huddled in the corner, clutching her daughter, shaking violently. Dominic walked over to them, his heavy footsteps echoing in the sudden quiet of the room. He knelt down once more, looking directly at the little girl who had just saved his life.
