Chapter 11 - The Lion's Den

|

The meeting took place in the back room of a desolate meatpacking warehouse in Brooklyn. Five elderly men—the heads of the Five Families—sat around a makeshift wooden table. Alessandro stood behind an empty chair, grinning like a victor.

The heavy steel doors rolled open, and Dominic walked in alone. He had ordered his men to stay outside.

"You look pale, brother," Alessandro taunted, gesturing to the empty chair across from him. "Take a seat. Before you fall."

Dominic ignored the chair. He looked at the elders. "My brother attempted to poison me in my own home, in front of our capos. When that failed, he staged an ambush."

"Lies," Alessandro spat. "You've lost your mind, Dominic. You take advice from a three-year-old child and bed a maid. You are weak. You are unfit to lead the Moretti family."

The head of the Commission, a man named Russo, held up a hand. "Alessandro brings heavy accusations, Dominic. He claims you ordered hits on your own loyal men to protect this woman."

"I protect what is mine," Dominic stated coldly. "But I did not order hits. I have proof of Alessandro's treachery."

Dominic tossed a thick manila folder onto the table. "Bank statements. Wire transfers. Alessandro has been skimming off the top of our ports for three years to pay mercenaries. He didn't just betray me; he stole from the Commission."

The elders opened the folder. The room grew dead silent. Alessandro's smug smile vanished.

"Where did you get this?" Alessandro demanded, drawing his gun.

"From your accountant," Dominic said softly. "Before I buried him."
