Chapter 12 - Betrayal in the Bunker

|
While Dominic faced the Commission, Sophia paced the underground bunker. Lily was sitting on the floor, drawing quietly with a set of crayons Marco had brought her.
Marco was by the steel reinforced door, checking the security feeds. "Relax, Sophia. The Boss knows what he's doing."
Suddenly, the security monitors flickered and went black. The bunker's heavy emergency sirens began to wail, flashing red lights bathing the room in an eerie glow.
"What's happening?" Sophia gasped, scooping Lily up into her arms.
"We've been breached," Marco growled, drawing his weapon. "Stay behind me."
A heavy pounding echoed on the steel door. Sparks flew as a blowtorch cut through the hinges. Marco flipped a table, motioning for Sophia to hide behind it.
"It's an inside job," Marco realized aloud. "Only my men know this location."
The door gave way with a deafening crash, blowing inward. Smoke filled the corridor. Marco opened fire, dropping the first two men who rushed in. But they were heavily armed, wearing tactical gear.
"Take the woman and the kid! Kill the guard!" a voice shouted from the smoke.

Marco was hit in the shoulder, spinning backward. He gritted his teeth, firing from the ground. "Run, Sophia! The escape hatch!"
Sophia grabbed Lily, tears streaming down her face, and ran toward the ventilation hatch at the back of the bunker. She shoved the heavy grate open, lifting her crying daughter into the dark tunnel. But before she could climb in herself, a brutal hand grabbed her by the hair, dragging her backward.
